Police release ‘important’ update on Nuneaton rape investigation

Police have released an “important” update on a rape investigation in Nuneaton. Warwickshire Police initially said the incident happened near St Nicolas Church.

Much of the church grounds, from the car park to the graveyard, was sealed off with police tape earlier this morning (May 14). But now the force has issued a new statement saying there is an “important” update – the location of the alleged incident has changed.



“The alleged incident was previously believed to have taken place in Vicarage Street, Nuneaton,” the force said. “The alleged incident is now believed to have taken place in the George Eliot Memorial Garden.”

While the location has changed, the appeal for witnesses remains. The force said: “Just after midnight on May 14, police were called to a report of an alleged rape in the George Eliot Memorial Gardens in Nuneaton.

“It appears that a woman was approached by an unknown man who then allegedly forced her to have intercourse with him.” They urged anyone who was in the area of ​​the George Eliot Memorial Gardens, which are based behind the Town Hall, and saw anything or had information to come forward.
