Channel 4 is set to air its new thriller series The Gathering on Tuesday 14 May. The six-part drama follows the aftermath of an attack on a teenager at an illegal beach rave.

What follows is a journey back in time as we trace the series of events that led to the brutal attack and who may be responsible for it. The show came from the makers of Line of Duty and Bodyguard, so we’re expecting some top-notch drama here.

What is The Gathering about?

The Gathering is a gripping mystery that follows a young woman’s violent attack at an illegal rave. Kelly – the victim of the attack – is an elite gymnast who is also grieving the death of her mother.

In the first episode, tensions flare between Kelly and Jessica, a fellow gymnast, after Kelly is selected for the national team. After the violent attack on Kelly, we travel back in time and meet a number of shadowy characters – and parents – who could all have played a role in her death.

The series, set in Merseyside, examines the murky world of the internet and social media – but also the changing dynamics between children and parents, who will do anything in their power to get their children ahead in life.

How many episodes of The Gathering are there?

The Gathering has six episodes. Each part of the drama focuses on the possible motives of the various suspects. The series marks the television writing debut for novelist Helen Walsh.
