Waterloo-Clapham Junction lines reopen but delays will last until evening rush hour

Rail lines between Clapham Junction and London Waterloo have reopened after a person died on the tracks on Wednesday morning, although services are expected to be delayed during the evening rush hour.

British Transport Police received a report shortly after 7.30am on Wednesday of an accident on the tracks near Clapham Junction station. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

South Western Railway said it received an emergency call from a train between the stations and all trains in the area were stopped.

National Rail says all lines have now reopened, but that trains may still be canceled or delayed by up to 45 minutes. The outage is now expected until 7:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, metro passengers are facing further strike disruption, with Aslef announcing two one-day walkouts on Monday 8 April and Saturday 4 May.

Aslef also announced that train drivers from 16 rail companies are to stage a new wave of strikes and a six-day overtime ban in a long-running dispute over pay, threatening more chaos from travel for passengers throughout the country.

Train damaged causing disruption and delays in Moorgate and Finsbury Park

Network Rail says a train breakdown between Moorgate and Finsbury Park is causing disruption to journeys between these stations.

“As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 10 minutes or diverted,” a spokesman said.

“Please allow extra time to complete your journey this evening. Services to and from Moorgate are affected due to a broken down train at Moorgate.

“As a result there will be a reduced service in the area, also affecting services to and from Hertford North.

“Some trains will be diverted to London Kings Cross to avoid congestion in the area.

“Please check live trip planners before starting your trip if possible.”

The Clapham Junction to Waterloo line has been released

Network Rail said the disruption to emergency services dealing with an incident between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction has now ended and the line is cleared.

Disruption to London St Pancras and Blackfriars is expected until 7pm

Disruption to City Thameslink is now expected until 7pm on Wednesday, National Rail said.

A fault in the signaling system means trains have to run at reduced speed between London Blackfriars and London St Pancras International.

Passengers can use tickets at no extra cost on South Western Railway services between London Waterloo and Wimbledon; London Buses between central London and Sutton; by any reasonable London Underground route; and trams between East Croydon and Wimbledon.

Minor delays on Bakerloo

A signaling fault means trains are having to run at reduced speed between London Blackfriars and St Pancras International, National Rail says.

It warns that trains can be delayed by up to 10 minutes.

The interruption is expected until 18.00.

Northbound services to St Albans, Luton, Bedford, Stevenage, Peterborough and Cambridge are affected.

Train drivers from 16 rail companies are set to stage a new wave of strikes in a long-running pay dispute, threatening more travel chaos for passengers across the country.

Aslef members will hold a continuous program of one-day walkouts between April 5 and 8, along with a six-day overtime ban.

The union said it wanted to increase pressure on “intransigent” rail companies and a “deaf” government following a 20-month strike.

Train drivers have now been without a pay rise for five years since April 2019, Aslef said.

A man dies in a crash on the M26

A man has died after a collision on the M26 near Sevenoaks.

Kent Police said a blue BMW 1 Series and a white VW Caddy were involved in the incident which happened between the junctions for the M25 and Wrotham Heath shortly after 11pm on Tuesday.

Emergency services attended and the driver of the VW, a man in his thirties, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.

The other driver suffered minor injuries.

British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed there was a casualty on the tracks near Clapham Junction station.

The force said it received a report of the incident shortly after 7.30am on Wednesday.

Paramedics and firefighters also attended, but unfortunately one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is not considered to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner, BTP said.
