Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon sends clear transfer message amid ‘interest’ from Liverpool

Anthony Gordon has made his feelings clear to Newcastle United in a new social media post amid reported transfer interest from Liverpool.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a thoroughly superb first season at Newcastle after leaving Everton, the club where he rose through the ranks. His contributions this season have been far better than when he first arrived at St James’ Park midway through the 2022/23 campaign.

Gordon has 10 goals and as many assists in 34 Premier League games as the Magpies look to cement their sixth-place finish. According to the Daily Star, Gordon has caught the eye of Liverpool’s scouting unit due to his “consistent excellence on the wing” as the club draw up a list of potential targets to sign in the summer.

However, the Reds are aware that they would need to launch a substantial bid of close to £100m to truly test Newcastle’s resolve. The report adds that the Magpies “expect to offload at least one, possibly two players” to comply with financial fair play rules.

However, Gordon, who was recently named player of the season, is a key player for Eddie Howe and the club will want to keep hold of him. The winger has now revealed that he continues to enjoy his time at Newcastle and playing in front of the St James’ Park crowd.

“What a place to play football,” he wrote on Instagram after their final home game of the season, which ended in a draw with Brighton last weekend. “Thank you for all your support, for some amazing memories at SJP this year.”
