Liverpool have been offered the chance to sign highly-rated midfielder Khephren Thuram for just £13m this summer.

Thuram, 23, was on the Reds’ radar last summer before they signed Stuttgart ace Wataru Endo and has since developed during his fifth season with French side Nice. The INEOS-owned club were demanding £34m at the time, but after a year and with the Frenchman entering the final 12 months of his contract, Nice are under pressure to sell or risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Nice-Matin local outlet report that just £13m could be enough to tempt him to sell, potentially making him Liverpool manager Arne Slot’s first signing since replacing Jurgen Klopp. The Reds’ recruitment team are understood to have a say in new signings and if the club’s interest remains, Slot could be handed a new option at the base of midfield.

Juventus, Barcelona and Manchester United have also been tipped to sign the 23-year-old, with United already having an established connection with Nice through co-owners INEOS. A number of Thuram’s team-mates, such as centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo and goalkeeper Marcin Bulka, were also linked with United ahead of the summer transfer window.

Nice will play European football next season and Thuram, son of France legend Lillian and brother of Inter Milan forward Marcus, has played a key role in that achievement despite not always living up to expectations under manager Francesco Farioli. Thuram claims it was his decision not to leave the Allianz Riviera last summer despite being courted by interested clubs.

“In what happened in the transfer window, I decided to stay,” he explained in November. “I wanted to continue to progress in Nice and progress as a player at this club.

“Honestly, it’s made me happy to be linked with all these clubs left, right and centre. It shows I’m doing things right, but like I said, I knew I wanted to stay here.”
