Awoniyi makes a quick comeback against Sheffield to boost Nottingham’s relegation survival

Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has made a swift return to the squad as Nottingham fight a relegation survival battle with just two matches remaining, reports.

Awoniyi, who has been plagued by recurring injuries, has been sidelined for a significant period, missing seven matches, which has affected his contributions to the team’s survival campaign.

Despite Awoniyi’s continued fitness struggles, manager Santo expressed his optimism during a press conference ahead of their crucial clash with Sheffield United.

While admitting that Awoniyi is still not fully fit, Santo highlighted the striker’s potential impact, particularly in the team’s search for crucial goals.

“We are aware that he is not at the highest level, but he can certainly be a helpful player for us in these final moments,” said Santo.

Shockingly, the former Union Berlin striker made a swift return earlier than expected during the match against Sheffield United, where Forest led 3-1 at Bramall Lane.

Awoniyi came on as a replacement for Chris Wood, who had been active for the team during Awoniyi’s injury.

The Nigerian forward will be hoping to make a full comeback against Chelsea when they welcome the Blues to the City Ground at this crucial stage of the season.
