Leeds Vicar Lane live updates as the road is blocked by firefighters

A major road in Leeds city center was blocked by firefighters this afternoon.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service blocked off a section of Vicar Lane, outside the Travelodge Hotel, after smoke was seen pouring from the top windows of a double-decker bus.




Footage from the scene shows several fire engines and firefighters in attendance, with the bus located inside the cordoned off area. The cordon appears to be in place from the junction with Harrison Street and ends halfway up the Travelodge building on Vicar Lane.

It is currently unclear when the road will be fully reopened. Leeds Live has contacted West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service for further information.

Firemen’s statement

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were called at 1.47pm today to reports of a bus on fire on Vicar Lane in Leeds.

“We sent two crews, Leeds and Hunslet, who put out the fire, which was on the first floor.”
